How do I know if I need a B-Band Converter?
The easiest way to tell if your H20 or HR20 receiver has the BBC connected to it is to look at the back of the receiver. Look for a module that looks like the one pictured to the right.
If you cant access the back of your receiver and you have an HR20 receiver, tune in to the BBC test channel — number 499. If you get a message that reads "Searching for signal on Satellite In," youll be able to enjoy new HD channels from DIRECTV as they become available. If you see the message "Important HD Information. Your B-Band Converter module is NOT connected," you do not have the BBC or it is not connected properly.
For certain models of the H20 or HR20 receivers and/or previous generation satellite dishes or if you live in Alaska or Hawaii, you may see a gray or blank screen when you tune in to channel 499. In this case, DIRECTV will have to verify your equipment setup to determine if you need a BBC.
